A mission of the CCSO's Education/Outreach program is to foster the introduction, appreciation, and participation in symphonic music through innovative programs and performances for children of diverse cultures and experiences. The CCSO accomplishes this mission by introducing new listeners to orchestral music by providing free performances of the orchestra, soloists, or ensembles, by going into the schools or hosting education concerts in a major venue.

The Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra presented the most recent Patricia Furley Education concerts, two free performances designed especially for 4th and 5th grade students, on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. The events were attended by approximately 2,100 children from the Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff, Portland, Port Aransas, West Oso and Tuloso Midway Independent School Districts as well as home- and private-school students.
Thanks to the efforts of school administrators, classrooms of eager students were transported by bus to the Performing Arts Center for these musical discovery concerts, which were generously underwritten by Flint Hills Resources, Navy Army Federal Credit Union, LandLord Resources, NuStar Energy, and the Valero Energy Foundation. Additional support was given by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Arts Advisory Council.
Planned and directed by Maestro John Giordano, music director and conductor of the CCSO, the program featured classical kid-friendly offerings such as Rossini’s William Tell Overture, and 14-year old pianist and cellist Sarina Zhang. The music selected was used to introduce the students to the various instruments of the orchestra. “Bringing great music to children is one of the most important missions of the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra,” said Maestro Giordano. “Classical music can be an essential and incredibly positive influence in our lives and we are thrilled with having the opportunity to introduce it to many children of our community.”
