The Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra presented “Adventures in Music,” a free education concert specially programmed for 4th and 5th grade school children on Thursday, March 8 at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. The event was attended by approximately 1,000 children from the Corpus Christi Independent School District including students from Allen, Chula Vista, Evans, Gibson, and Oak Park Elementary Schools. The education concert was the first of its kind presented by the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra since the opening of the Performing Arts Center in the 2004-2005 season.
Thanks to the efforts of Scott Eliff, Acting Superintendent of the Corpus Christi Independent School District and Dick Peltz, also of the CCISD, dozens of classrooms of eager students were transported by bus, at the expense of the CCISD, to the beautiful Performing Arts Center for a morning of musical discoveries. The education concert was generously underwritten by LandLord Resources and Stripes. Additional support was given by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Arts Advisory Council
Conducted by Maestro John Giordano, the program featured classical kid-friendly offerings such as Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Dvorak’s Carnival Overture, Star Wars, and more. “Bringing great music to children is one of the most important missions of the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra,” said Maestro John Giordano, Music Director of the Corpus Christi Symphony. “Classical music can be an essential and incredibly positive influence in our lives and we are thrilled with having the opportunity to introduce it to many children of our community.” The CCSO plans to provide the community two such concerts next season.
